A Song in My Heart:
Saving, Singing, and Sharing the Classic Hymns
Hymns are therapeutic theology, distillations of the richest truths of God, versified, emotionalized, set to music, and released in the mind and from the mouth. They clear our minds, soothe our nerves, verbalize our worship, summarize our faith, and sing our great Redeemer’s praise. But hymns are also an endangered species. Worship leaders are replacing legacy music with the latest music, just at a time when we need both. This lecture will share the basic history of biblical and Christian hymnody in the Western church and uncover the unique ways God ministers to us (and through us back to Himself) through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. This lecture will be a personal tour of your hymnbook; a fresh look at the meaning and majesty of worship; and a call to save, sing, and share the hymns.
