Lanier Certificate in Theology and Ministry FAQ


General

Is it too late to start?

The LCTM has rolling enrollment; you can begin your journey anytime! Register for classes that interest you.

Do I need any prior theological training?

Prior theological education is not required. We expect that participants will have a wide range of educational backgrounds.

Are there any required textbooks or required advanced reading?

We do not generally require textbooks for our courses. Many courses recommend books for reading, but they are not required to take the course.

 

Enrollment

How do I sign-up for the LCTM?

To sign up for the LCTM program, you will need to enroll through Moodle, our learning management system. Once enrolled, you can then register for individual courses.

Can I take courses without completing the full program?

Yes! You can register only for courses that interest you.

How do I know when new classes are available for registration?

You can find upcoming classes on our website, or in Moodle. Classes are also announced in the library’s monthly newsletter, which you can sign up for on the Lanier Theological Library website.

 

Courses

Who will be teaching these classes?

You can expect a wide variety of faculty teaching these courses. All will be recognized scholars in their field of study. Each of our faculty has advanced degrees.

How are the classes taught? 

Courses will be taught in one of four ways: (1) in-person intensive weekends, that is, a Friday evening and Saturday morning; (2) in person once weekly classes at LTL over four weeks, with each lecture lasting 1.25 hours; (3) online over one or more weeks (4) a hybrid, that is, a combination of online and in-person classes. In person classes will be taught in the Lanier Learning Center and the Stone Chapel.

What are the class sizes for these courses?

Class sizes are limited to 40 people to enhance interaction with the instructors.

I will not be in town for one of the classes. Does this mean I should not register for the LCTM program?

No. Core courses are available at least annually and you will have more opportunities to complete your courses.

Do courses have to be taken in a certain order?

Generally, courses can be taken in any order.

Are language courses part of the certificate program?

Up to four language courses (Greek, Hebrew, or any combination of the two) can be taken as elective credit for the LCTM for classes taken after June 30, 2024.

 

Certification

How long does it take to earn the LCTM?

We expect participants to complete the program in about two years. Once earned, credits can be applied to the LCTM for up to six years before expiring.

Is there a limit on the number of electives I can take?

You may register for as many electives as you wish. Generally, only six electives count towards the LCTM. Course substitutions are considered on a. case by case basis.

Are completed credits transferable to a college or university?

We are not an accredited institution so credits will not transfer to an accredited program.

 

Financial

How much does each class cost?

Cost may vary by class, but you can expect classes will cost between $30 and $60.

Is financial aid available?

Yes! If you need financial aid, please email certificate@lanierlibrary.org.

Can I get a refund if I don't attend the class?

Full refunds are available if requested by email at least 48 hours before the class begins. Please email certificate@lanierlibrary.org
